Ian is an experienced general ecologist and project manager having provided professional ecological advice since 1996. He has gained a wide range of industry and regulatory experience, with specialisms in protected areas and protected species management. Ian has undertaken habitat and protected species surveys, ecological impact assessments, habitats regulations assessments in the UK and overseas as an ecologist with the Ministry of Defence, conservation officer and species licensing manager with English Nature (now Natural England), and as an independent ecological consultant.
Ian is considered a leading bat specialist holding a range of licences to work with this group of species since 1995, and has led projects to mist net/harp trap and radio track most UK bat species for large infrastructure and housing developments, as well land/habitat management studies. Ian’s PhD investigated the ecology of pipistrelle bats and he has led research into the ecology of tree roosting bat species. Ian’s ecological specialism combined with an in depth understanding of the legal and regulatory framework has made him an effective expert witness at public inquiries where he is backed by a credible scientific publication record.

Diane has been a professional ecologist with post-degree experience in ecological consultancy since 1998. She has vast range of practical experience in undertaking extended Phase 1 habitat surveys and protected species surveys to inform baseline ecological assessments. She has also undertaken many ecological constraints walkovers and bat surveys to determine ecological risk early on in the land purchase process. Her experience ensures the provision of support to clients from project commencement through the development phase to completion with the production of high quality focused reports and targeted liaison with other specialists. Diane has conducted and managed ecological clerk of works, contractor supervision, protected species licences, management plans and watching briefs in both the UK and Europe. She has also provided specialist ecological input into Appropriate Assessment, Strategic Environmental Assessment, BREEAM, EcoHomes and Sustainability Appraisals.
Throughout her career, Diane has worked with a diverse variety of clients ranging from small scale conversion projects, specialist ecological consultancies and local authorities through to government agencies, defence, blue chip developers and global engineering consultancies. She has a wealth of project experience ranging from small single site conversions and developments through to large new town residential, road, rail and commercial developments. This also includes brownfield industrial sites, utilities, waterside and greenfield agricultural sites.
