bat surveys & research

Davidson-Watts Ecology Ltd is a leader in bat survey and assessment and utilises a range of advanced survey techniques from remote bat detector systems to mist netting and radio tracking. We can support a wide range of projects from small scale barn conversions to landscape level studies for road schemes, master planning and renewables.

We regularly undertake research projects to maintain the scientific credibility of our work, which has proven invaluable at public inquiries.

Research includes:

Specific radio tracking studies of bats for large infrastructure projects for road schemes and reservoirs for EIAs;
Rare woodland bat species habitat and roost preferences on the Isle of Wight - Peoples Trust for Endangered Species;
Swarming behaviour of bats at underground stone quarries in Wiltshire - Bristol University; and
Bechstein and barbastelle bat SSSI/Special Area of Conservation mapping - Hampshire and Isle of Wight - English Nature/Natural England.
